Korea holds seminar for Japanese investors
Author KOIMA
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy held an investment seminar in Tokyo a day before the ninth APEC Energy Ministers' Meeting where Minister Choi Kyunghwan represented Korea. The discussion centered on the country?s positive economic outlook and the proactive efforts of the Korean government to create an ideal investment environment.

At the seminar, a Japanese company that had successfully made its mark in the Korean market shared its experiences. Korean buyers who are active in the parts and materials sector gave presentations on their plans and strategies, which will assist Japanese companies in identifying suitable local partners. Consulting agencies with expertise in the financial, accounting and legal fields offered tailored information to potential Japanese investors.

The seminar resulted in a memorandum of understanding concerning investment by a Japanese auto parts supplier in a parts and materials complex in the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone. A Japanese petroleum company announced its plan to invest $100 million (USD) in a joint project with a Korean partner to build a factory that manufactures a petrochemical product.

It was a timely seminar, Minister Choi remarked, noting that Japanese investment in Korea had increased in recent years and there was a need for fresh momentum to enhance the bilateral economic partnership.
